Abstract

Water pollution has emerged as a critical environmental issue worldwide, resulting from diverse sources such as industrial effluents, agricultural runoff, domestic wastewater, oil spills, plastics, and natural processes. These pollutants significantly impact ecosystems, human health, and socio-economic development, causing biodiversity loss, waterborne diseases, and increased treatment costs. Addressing water pollution requires a combination of preventive and remedial strategies that are both innovative and environmentally sustainable. Smart approaches, including IoT-based real-time monitoring, artificial intelligence, predictive modeling, and data-driven management systems, enable early detection of contaminants, precise control of pollution sources, and efficient resource allocation, shifting water management from reactive to proactive strategies. Complementing these technological solutions, eco-friendly treatment methods such as bioremediation, phytoremediation, constructed wetlands, membrane technologies, nanotechnology, and green chemical processes provide environmentally safe, cost-effective, and sustainable means of restoring water quality. By integrating smart monitoring systems with natural treatment processes, along with supportive policies, public awareness, and community participation, water pollution can be effectively prevented and treated. This holistic approach not only safeguards human health and aquatic ecosystems but also promotes sustainable development, ensuring the availability of clean and safe water for present and future generations
